March Guest Speaker - Sharper Focus

At our latest riding club meeting, we were thrilled to welcome Simon Freegard, Owner of Sharper Focus, and with over 20 years in the business can be classed as an expert in horse clippers, maintenance and blade sharpening. Simon’s talk was an incredibly informative session that covered all aspects of horse clippers, from their maintenance to the various brands available on the market.

Horse clippers, like any piece of equipment, require regular care to perform optimally and to ensure they last for many years.

  • Cleaning the Blades: After each use, it’s important to clean the blades thoroughly to prevent dirt and hair from clogging them. This ensures smooth operation and prevents unnecessary wear.

  • Oiling the Blades: Regularly oiling the blades is essential for reducing friction and heat, keeping the clippers running smoothly and extending their lifespan. How often should you oil your clippers during clipping.... EVERY 10 MINUTES!

The key takeaway from Simon’s talk was that proper maintenance and ensuring the right tension can make a world of difference in your clipping experience. A well-maintained set of clippers will not only provide a smoother, more enjoyable grooming process for both you and your horse, but it will also save you money in the long run by avoiding costly repairs or replacements.

Make sure you contact Simon for any servicing or blade sharpening, he is fully mobile, often found in local feed merchants and can even visit your yard!! Find him on Facebook or call 07738 899109.

Thanks again Simon from all at VHPRC.
